Todd and Julie Chrisley were convicted guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion earlier this year and handed lengthy prison sentences on Monday.

Todd Chrisley was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 16 months of probation by U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross in Atlanta, according to news sources, while Julie Chrisley was sentenced to 7 years in prison and 16 months of probation.

The Chrisleys rose to prominence with their television show “Chrisley Knows Best,” which featured their close-knit, rowdy family.

According to federal prosecutors, the couple orchestrated a large bank fraud scheme before concealing their income from tax authorities and flaunting their lavish lifestyle.

The Chrisleys, according to prosecutors, “have established an empire predicated on the lie that their money came from commitment and hard work.”

The unanimous ruling of the jury defines the situation: Todd and Julie Chrisley are professional fraudsters who have built a living by jumping between fraud schemes, fooling banks, exploiting merchants, and evading taxes everywhere.

Todd Chrisley’s counsel stated in court that he should not be imprisoned for more than nine years.

Probation with particular restrictions and no jail time, according to Julie Chrisley’s attorneys, would be a reasonable punishment for her. The Chrisleys were found guilty in June of conspiracy to defraud the IRS, bank fraud, and tax evasion.

Julie Chrisley was also found guilty of wire fraud and obstructing justice.

Prosecutors claim that the couple used fraudulent papers to mislead banks into providing them loans worth more than $30 million. When Todd Chrisley declared bankruptcy, they walked away from their commitment to repay the loans, which had failed.

According to the prosecution, they began their reality show while destitute and “flaunted their wealth and lifestyle to the American public” before hiding the millions they gained from the show from the IRS.

Prosecutors said that the Chrisleys also convinced friends and family members to lie under oath during their trial and gave a forged document to a grand jury investigating their crimes.

Prosecutors alleged that neither had expressed contrition for their crimes and instead blamed others for their wrongdoing.

According to the prosecution, the Chrisleys are remarkable because of the length of time they engaged in fraud and obstructive action, as well as the range and scope of their fraudulent activities.

Todd Chrisley’s attorneys stated in a petition that the government never offered any proof that he intended to deceive the banks and that the loss figure determined was incorrect.

They also stated that the acts were committed a long time ago, he has no substantial criminal history, and he has medical limitations that “would make imprisonment disproportionately harsh.”

His attorneys also produced letters from friends and coworkers demonstrating “a history of good deeds and a desire to assist others.”

They argued that while Chrisley is imprisoned, people who rely on him will suffer, including his mother and several others hired by his television programs.

They asked the judge to impose a prison sentence below the guidelines, followed by supervised release and compensation.

Julie Chrisley’s counsel contended that she was not present when the loans described in the sentencing documents were received and that she played only a minor role in the scheme.

Her counsel asked for probation, restitution, and community service, citing her lack of prior convictions, community service, and “extraordinary family commitments.”

The Chrisleys have three children, one of whom is 16 years old, in addition to Todd Chrisley’s son from a previous marriage, whose daughter is 10 years old. Julie Chrisley is the primary caregiver for her ailing mother-in-law, according to the documentation.

Her attorneys also produced character witness letters complimenting her for being “sturdy in character, hardworking, unfailingly unselfish, loyal to her family and friends, and greatly adored by everyone who knows her.”
