The New Year’s $285 Stimulus Check Will Be Mailed Within A Few Weeks If You Qualify

Those who qualify could expect to receive the one-time “surprise stimulus” payments by mail between now and January 21.

Qualified Maine citizens will receive the funds, and their qualification status may be checked on the Maine Revenue Service website.

Governor Janet Mills signed a bill establishing the Maine Disaster Relief Program in November, allocating $149.8 million for one-time compensation to Maine individuals who worked during the epidemic.

The monies will be used to give relief and help to people who have been affected by Covid.

As a consequence, more than 500,000 qualified workers will get a check for at least $285.

The checks began to be sent in November and will be completed by December 31, coming just in time for the Christmas season and the start of the new year.

These surprise checks are a continuation of the previous nationwide $1,400 checks distributed in March as part of President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.

You must produce proof of eligibility before March 31, 2022. If you fulfill all of these criteria and are judged to be qualified for a check, it will be mailed to you by June 30, 2022.

Who Is Eligible?

  • As a full-year resident, you must file your 2020 Maine income tax return by October 31, 2021.
  • Possessing a Federal Adjusted Gross Income (FAGI) of less than $75,000 (non – married filing independently), $112,500 (head of the household), or $150,000 on your 2020 Maine income tax return (married joint or surviving spouse)
  • Wages, salaries, tips, or other taxable employee remuneration received in 2020
  • Not reported as a dependent on another taxpayer’s Maine income tax return for 2020.

Paper checks began being distributed on November 15 and are scheduled to remain until the conclusion of the fiscal year.

Qualifying residents can expect to receive a check in the mail no later than December 31, 2021, assuming their application is received by the US Postal Service.

While no applications are necessary, information on tax returns submitted after October 31, 2021 will not be considered.
