The ‘avatar’ Sequel Falls Short of Box Office Expectations

LOS ANGELES, Dec 18 (Reuters) – “Avatar: The Way of Water,” the expensive and long-awaited sequel to the highest-grossing movie of all time, opened to an estimated $134 million in ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada. This was less than what was expected for the first weekend that the movie was out.

The movie “The Way of Water” brought in an extra $301 million from markets outside of the United States, according to the distributor Walt Disney Co (DIS.N). As of Sunday, this brought the global total to about $435 million.
