Officials said on Wednesday that a man accused of raping a 12-year-old Bronx girl at armed with a knife inside her home televised his surrender to police on Facebook Live.
Marcus Wiggins, 45, handed himself in at the 44th Precinct stationhouse in the Bronx on Tuesday afternoon.
“I apologies to all my friends and family for having to hear these weird things,” Wiggins, who was clad in a black sweatsuit, said on Facebook Live as he sat in a vehicle outside the stationhouse. “It’s completely false. I’m going in there right now to take care of this and my business.”
“As I already said before, this is insane,” he added. “That’s a nasty accusation, man. But, dude, it is what it is. “The truth will be revealed.”
The Bronx Daily initially reported the Facebook post, which ended with Wiggins lighting a cigarette as he approached the stationhouse door.
“Thank you for giving yourself in,” a lady said in response to Wiggins’ tweet.
Wiggins allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl inside the child’s house on May 9 at Gerard Ave. and E. 164th St. in Melrose, according to police. Wiggins reportedly drew a knife on the same girl on November 5, forcing her to perform a sex act.
According to detectives, Wiggins fled the apartment after the incident, and the victim was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries, including numerous wounds on her arm.
The NYPD listed Wiggins as a suspect and urged the public for assistance in locating him.
Wiggins claimed in a written Facebook post that the claims were related to his ex-girlfriend, the child’s mother.
He also claimed to have resided in the area where at least one of the attacks occurred.
Wiggins was arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court on Wednesday and ordered jailed on $100,000 cash or $300,000 bail on accusations of forced sexual conduct and assault.
Wiggins, according to Assistant District Attorney Sam Yellen, is a sexual offender with a criminal record that includes one misdemeanor conviction and two felony sex offences. According to Yellen, if convicted on the charges, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
Yellen stated that the 12-year-old girl quickly informed her mother following the Nov. 5 knife assault and forced sexual behavior, but that the sexual abuse began on Mother’s Day, May 9.
Wiggins’ next court appearance is scheduled for November 22.
