Selena Gomez and Kieran Culkin Crash Steve Martin and Martin Short’s ‘SNL’ Presenting Gig: ‘how About Me?’

Selena Gomez co-stars on Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” with Steve Martin and Martin Short, so it didn’t take a detective to figure out she’d make a cameo during the duo’s “Saturday Night Live” hosting stint.

And she did just that! The actress and singer appeared near the conclusion of the duo’s opening monologue. The two (jokingly!) lambasted each other over fictitious eulogies. “Marty didn’t want to be cremated, but it was too late!” Martin, for example, made a joke.

“Now that Marty’s gone, who will I ever work with?” Martin concluded.

“And how about me?” Gomez said, startling the audience with her surprise appearance. Martin and Short are a dynamic combination, but they’ve now become a fantastic trio with Gomez.

Gomez and Kieran Culkin also featured in a late sketch mocking the Martin and Short film “Father of the Bride” (who, yes, was in the original).

The second season of the show premiered earlier this year, and critic Kelly Lawler had this to say about it: “Combining the skills of Martin, Short, and Gomez was an unusual but welcome formula, and they continue to be a charming trio in Season 2.

In the universe of ‘Only Murders,’ it’s still a dark and dreary New York winter, but this singularly likeable drama has an unusual capacity to brighten your spirits even as it deals with murder and mayhem.”

Nonetheless, the “SNL” alums made several timely jokes about their long-standing connection early in the performance.

“We’re like Harry and Meghan, Steve. Nobody is rooting for us, but you’ll watch anyhow “Short was referring to the royal couple’s new Netflix series, which is gaining popularity both at home and abroad.

“Working with Marty Short is like being in the World Cup,” Martin subsequently remarked. “I just can’t seem to get into it.”

They also stated that the third season of “Only Murders in the Building” is now in the works. And, like Martin at the urinal, it streams for 32 minutes, as Short stated.
