Planned Parenthood’s Tennessee building was set on fire on New Year’s Eve by arsonists, officials said

A fire took place at around 6:30 AM on New Year’s Eve in a Planned Parenthood facility in Tennessee.

However, The Knoxville Fire Department on Thursday reported that the fire was set intentionally.

Their statement earlier stated “Knoxville Fire Department investigators, along with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), have conducted a thorough scene investigation of the December 31st 710 N. Cherry Street – Planned Parenthood fire and determined the fire to have been purposely set by an individual or individuals who, at this time, remain unidentified,”

When the fire took place, the firefighters immediately came to the Parenthood facility with 9 firefighter units along with thirty  Fire department members.

The fire completely destroyed the building. The department said that it was a total loss for them.

The department has offered a reward of up to $10,000 on any information that could be given to them which tells them about the destroyer of the building.

“It must be made clear that these hateful acts go much further than property damage — they harm the patients who depend on safe Planned Parenthood health centers, staff, and providers to receive trusted, essential health care services,” Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America said.

Fortunately, the building was being renovated so at the time when the fire took place, there was no one inside the building and so no injuries were reported.

Planned Parenthood facility has more than 600 health centers across the country. They provide a range of reproductive healthcare services, including abortion.
