Millions of Americans were eligible for hefty federal stimulus cash in 2021. President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act in March, which gave individuals and qualifying dependents with $1,400 stimulus grants.

The measure also enlarged the current Child Tax Credit and modified the method of distribution, enabling qualified families to receive it on a monthly basis.

The final of those payouts for the year will be issued tomorrow. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2021 final check, as well as what you should do if you didn’t receive any of the stimulus money you were supposed to receive this year.

Previously to the American Rescue Plan Act, the current Kid Tax Credit payment was worth $2,000 per qualified child, but only $1,400 of the credit was refundable, thus families with less than $2,000 in yearly tax due did not always get the whole amount.

The money were also sent to parents only when they submitted their tax returns and claimed their credit, implying that it was a once-a-year payout. And, in other cases, consumers did not receive money back; instead, the credit just decreased their tax burden.

The American Rescue Plan Act increased the credit to $3,600 per qualified kid under the age of six, and $3,000 for children aged six to seventeen. Beginning in June, the IRS began providing a portion of the credit at a monthly rate of $250 or $300.

For people who provided the IRS with their bank information, these funds were already placed into bank accounts on or around the 15th of the month in June, July, August, September, October, and November. The final payment will now be paid in December.

If somehow the IRS has your bank account information on file, you should receive your money soon. This is your final payment for the year. In addition, half of your enlarged credit will be supplied when you get it. The remaining half can be claimed when you file your 2021 tax return in 2022.

The enhanced Child Tax Credit may now be extended for another year as part of the Build Back Better legislation just passed by the House, which Biden and other key Democrats want to enact and sign it into law.
