On Highway 52, One Individual Was Killed in A Chain Reaction Incident Involving Six Automobiles

On a rainy Minnesota roadway, a chain reaction incident involving six automobiles killed one person.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, three semi-trailers and three passenger vehicles — a 2020 Cadillac CTS, a 2016 Honda Pilot, and a 2010 Honda Accord — were all going northbound on Highway 52, between Oronoco and Pine Island, approximately 9:14 a.m. Wednesday.

The event report does not specify what caused the disaster, although all six were engaged in a “chain reaction” crash.

According to Sgt. Troy Christianson of the State Patrol, the State Patrol still has to finish the accident reconstruction and speak with witnesses.

The crash affected a total of 11 persons. At least one person was killed, however the State Patrol has not released any specifics as of Thursday morning, other than calling the collision as “death.” The names of individuals involved were made public just after noon on Thursday.

Bonita K. Sawyer, a 65-year-old from Rochester, kicked the bucket in the accident. She was a traveler in a 2010 Honda Accord being driven by 67-year-old Debra J. Bieber, who experienced hazardous wounds and was taken to St. Marys-Rochester.

The State Patrol said street conditions were wet at that point, and the region was covered in haze. The accident shut down the interstate for quite some time.
