The Indianapolis Colts struggled mightily on offence in a Monday night loss, and broadcaster Troy Aikman wasn’t shy about expressing his thoughts.

The Hall of Famer described the Colts’ offence as “pretty dreadful” during the broadcast.

He also stated that he believes quarterback Matt Ryan is nearing the end of his career and was surprised by Indy’s desire to throw the ball rather than run more.

“They’ve thrown the ball a lot more than I expected,” Aikman observed.

Throughout the game, the three-time Super Bowl champion continued to express his displeasure with the offence.

In the first half, the Colts managed only 71 yards of total offence against the Steeler’s defence.

Pittsburgh defeated Indianapolis 24-17, thanks in part to clock mismanagement in the final minutes of the game.

During the first 30 minutes of the game, Ryan completed 5 of 13 passes for 36 yards and an interception.

Aikman did not blame Ryan entirely for the mistake, admitting that wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. should not have stopped running his route on the play.

Ryan and the Colts were able to regain control of the game in the second half, scoring 14 points in the third quarter alone. In the first two quarters, Indianapolis only scored three points.

A renewed emphasis on the rushing attack may have contributed to Indianapolis’ ability to score more points in the second half.

The former NFL MVP finished with 199 yards passing, one touchdown, and one interception.

The season in Indianapolis has not lived up to expectations. Indy opted to trade for Ryan during the offseason after parting ways with veteran quarterback Carson Wentz.

After a 3-5-1 start, team owner Jim Irsay relieved Frank Reich of his head coaching duties on November 7. On a temporary basis, Irsay replaced Reich with former Colts centre Jeff on Saturday.

The Colts (4-7) travel to Arlington this week to face the Cowboys (8-3) on Sunday night.
