Malikah Shabazz, Daughter of the Late Malcolm X, Found Dead in Her Brooklyn Home: Sources

According to police sources, the late Malcolm X’s daughter was discovered dead in her Brooklyn home Monday night.

Malikah Shabazz, 56, was discovered by her daughter Bettih-Bahiyah Shabazz, 23, in the house they shared on E. 28th St. Malikah Shabazz, 56, was the youngest of six daughters of Malcolm X and wife Betty Shabazz.

According to police, her death was not suspicious.

Malaak & Malikah were born on February 21, 1965, seven months after their father, a civil rights and human rights activist, was assassinated.

Her death comes just four days after two of the men convicted in the assassination of Malcolm X were exonerated by a Manhattan court.

At front of an audience of 400 people in Harlem’s Audubon Ballroom, Malcolm X was shot 16 times, including his pregnant wife and three kids. With a shotgun, one of the killers shot the victim from close range.

A court invalidated Muhammed Aziz and Khalil Islam’s convictions on Thursday, at the request of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance. After two decades in jail, Aziz, now 83, was released in 1985, although he maintained his innocence for a long time, as did Islam, who was released in 1987 and died in 2009.

As they waited in a cell together, Mujahid Abdul Halim, who confessed repeatedly shooting Malcolm as he lay helpless on the ballroom stage, conceded to his co-defendants that they were both innocent.
