Kit Harington was 21 years old when he was cast as Jon Snow in HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” He had just finished his first play and had just graduated from theatre school.

The young actor’s career got a “stratospheric boost” from the show’s huge success, but he also said that being so famous was “a shock to the system.” At the first official “Game of Thrones” fan event this month, the 35-year-old said that his friends kept him from going crazy.

During a Q&A for “The Official Game of Thrones Podcast,” he said, “I kept a really good group of friends around me who always made fun of me.” “This is very important. They didn’t let me think of other things. My feet couldn’t leave the ground. I had to stay down there forever. They keep doing it.”

Harington said he learned to stay away from internet comments and stopped reading what people said about him. He kept himself and his self-esteem safe by telling himself that “Game of Thrones” was “just a TV show.”

“You can think you’re the most important person in the world and the best thing since sliced bread,” he said. “Don’t get too big for these shoes,” they said. Even though he was successful as Jon Snow, Harington didn’t know what he should do next.

“As an actor, you look for that thing your whole life. You look for that one thing that really takes off or makes you known “He said. “And if you get it when you’re in your twenties, you think, ‘Oh, crap, what do I do now?'”

Harington didn’t start to accept Jon Snow’s place in his life until he met with “Thrones” co-creator Dan Weiss recently.

“Then you think, ‘Well, I don’t have to look for it anymore,'” he said. “I can do whatever I want. I can go out and explore and do weird things. That, I believe, is a genuine relief.”

Harington’s career after “Game of Thrones” has included roles in Amazon’s “Modern Love,” a Marvel movie, and a biopic about author Mary Shelley in which he played Frankenstein.

But Jon Snow still has time to go back to his life. Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter said that the actor is in talks to play Longclaw again in an HBO sequel series.

During the Q&A, he said, “I guess where we left him at the end of the programme… we wanted some kind of tiny grin that things are okay.” “He isn’t okay.”
