JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, has responded to calls to boycott Hogwarts Legacy because of her comments about the transgender community, saying that those who refuse to play the upcoming game should also refuse to read the books or watch the movies.

JK Rowling Tweets About the Hogwarts Legacy Boycott

Jessie Earl, a writer and director, tweeted that sponsoring Hogwarts Legacy is “damaging” because Rowling uses her “continuing platform to target and also justify her constant targeting of trans people is hurtful to trans people.” Rowling responded to Earl’s tweet by saying that she doesn’t agree with what Earl said.

Rowling responded by tweeting, “The truly righteous wouldn’t just burn their books and movies, but also the local library, anything with an owl on it, and even their own dogs.”

In recent years, Rowling has been criticised for her views on transgender people and her public appearances with people who are critical of gender roles. Radcliffe wrote in an open letter in response to her outspokenness, “Transgender women are women.”

In 2020, WB Games said that Rowling “was not personally involved in the design of the game,” but they did acknowledge her “amazing body of literature.” David Haddad, the president of WB Games, said of the author’s controversy, “She has the right to say what she wants on social media.”
