Has Elon Musk Purchased Google? Rumors Dispelled

Early in January, a story was going around the internet. “Has Elon Musk bought Google?” asked a lot of journalists. But this is not true. Elon Musk is a multibillionaire businessman who started Tesla and SpaceX.

He became well-known after buying Twitter and changing how it works. The CEO of SpaceX has been messing around with his most recent purchase, turning off accounts and changing how private they are.

This is why a lot of people were fooled when the rumour started to spread on social media that Musk was going to take over Google. The people who run the YouTube channel Elon Musk Zone put up a video on January 8 called “Elon Musk: I officially bought Google.”

It was first said at this time that Musk had bought Google. “Elon Musk’s recent purchase of Google has surprised many people,” says the first line of the video.

Some people who wrote about this story said that the video thumbnail had a photo of Musk and Google CEO Sundar Pichai that had been changed.

In the description of the video, there was a disclaimer that was similar to those we’ve seen on other sites that say they make satire and parody. But this notice didn’t say anything about the words “satire” or “parody.”

Instead, the warning just said, “Our Channel, which is made up of facts, rumours, and stories, has nothing to do with Elon Musk and is based on those things alone. This video is not meant to give advice about money or health.”

The Script of the Video is Deceptive

At the beginning of the video, the following narration set up the made-up story:

Have you ever imagined that Elon Musk would be capable of buying Google, the biggest search engine in the world? I’ll bet you that never did, though. Let’s just accept it, though. It should come as no surprise that Elon Musk is a man full of shocks.”

People were sceptical on social media and asked questions like:

  • Is there ANYONE that believes that Elon Musk has bought google?

  • Hey @elonmusk there’s a rumor that you bought google.”

The news was shown to be false by a great number of independent sources, including:

@BravoDaveTX @elonmusk @Google, The same channel, said he bought Facebook. The same channel claimed he hired MrBeast as CEO. I once thought it was a legit channel for Musk news, and now, not so much.”

Even though the video has been watched more than 500,000 times, this claim is not true, and the picture of Musk and Google CEO Sundar Pichai is a fake.
