Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg (born January 3, 2003) is a well-known Swedish environmental activist who has called on international leaders to take immediate action to mitigate climate change.

Thunberg began her advocacy as a child by attempting to persuade her parents to reduce their own carbon footprint through lifestyle changes. In August of 2018, she began spending her Fridays outside the Swedish Parliament holding a placard that read “Skolstrejk för climate” to advocate for more aggressive climate change mitigation measures (School strike for climate).

Thunberg rose to prominence due to her young age and the directness and bluntness of her public and political speeches, in which she chastised world leaders for failing to address the climate crisis.
