Ellen DeGeneres released a statement on the death of her former talk show’s longtime DJ and co-executive producer, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, on Wednesday, stating she is “heartbroken” by his demise.

“I’m devastated. “tWitch was nothing but love and light,” she posted on Instagram. “He was my family, and I loved him with everything I had.

I’m going to miss him. Please send Allison and his three lovely children, Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia, your love, and support.”

Allison Holker Boss, his wife, confirmed on Wednesday that her husband died at the age of 40.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, he committed suicide. On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office completed its investigation and released its report on his death.

Boss joined “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” as a DJ in 2014, later becoming a co-executive producer and occasional guest presenter.

During the show’s tenure, despite troubles coming from charges against DeGeneres from certain employees concerning a terrible work environment, Boss publicly supported his friend DeGeneres.

“We can’t talk about it too much legally, but there’s been love,” Boss told Us Weekly. “Obviously, there are certain issues to fix, but from my perspective and that of countless others, there has been love.

I’ll simply leave it at that until we can address this more publicly. There’s been love and there will continue to be love.”

As the show approached its end earlier this year, Boss reflected fondly on his time there, telling Entertainment Tonight that saying goodbye was difficult.

“Things do have a beginning and an end, so I know that,” he said, “but I think the closer it gets to the conclusion, naturally, as humans do, you start to miss it and soak up all of the tiny moments where you go, ‘Well, maybe I’m not quite ready to say goodbye just yet,'” he said.

“But, at the same time, this is the natural order of things, and, as I’ve said before, I’m really excited for my friend to begin the next chapter of her adventure, you know?”

When the “Ellen” program came to an end, DeGeneres surprised Boss with a touching homage on air. “Well, I don’t want to say goodbye,” she said at one point.

She went on to describe their first meeting, which happened to be for a dancing class at her place.

“It felt like a crash course in getting to know one another… “And he was so kind to me,” she remarked. “We just got together to learn to dance together.”

DeGeneres went on to say that whenever he was absent from the show, a piece was missing.

“I rely on him to look over and crack dumb jokes,” she explained. “You know how much I adore you, tWitch. Every day as we say our goodbyes, we tell one other that. We both say ‘love you after the show. He says, ‘I love you a lot,’ and I answer, ‘I love you, too.’ As a result, he’ll never leave my life.”

The video piece and DeGeneres’ words moved Boss to tears.

“I love the family we’ve formed, and something I’ll never forget is that you gave me a place where I could just be myself,” he added. “Whether I was a true DJ or not,” he said, “I always felt at home.”

“You’re a fake DJ, but you’re a real decent man,” DeGeneres responded.
