Cricket Extend Borders As USA And West Indies Co-Host Men’s 2024 T20 World Cup

For the first time in its history, the United States will host a cricket World Cup, as the sport seeks to expand beyond its traditional borders.

The announcement came on Tuesday, when the International Cricket Council announced the hosts of every men’s white-ball tournament from 2024 to 2031. In 2024, the United States will co-host the T20 World Cup with the West Indies.

The ICC has always considered the United States to be a valuable market. There are tens of thousands of regular players in the United States, but the large percentage are from the British migration, and the general public is unaware of the sport.

Paraag Marathe, the head of USA Cricket’s board of directors, expressed confidence that the 2024 World Cup will transform the existing situation.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recognized the United States as a critical market for expansion that would benefit cricket worldwide,” he stated on Tuesday.

“A significant event in 2024 will serve as a catalyst for improving facilities, establishing a professional league, expanding the fan base, and inspiring public and corporate backing.”

In the 2024 tournament, the West Indies will host two-thirds of the matches, while the United States will host the remaining matches.

Ireland, Scotland, and England have also been nominated as co-hosts of the 2030 T20 World Cup.

The tournament will be the first time Ireland and Scotland have hosted games in a major cricket event since 1999, when they hosted three World Cup matches between them.

The timetable and host locations for the 2030 event are still being worked out.

“It will be great for the Scottish cricket public to be able to see the stars of world cricket in person as well as for Scotland to show off its history and beauty to the cricket lovers from around the world who will flock to see the finals,” said Tony Brian, whose team reached the Super 12 stage of this year’s T20 World Cup. The event will be extremely beneficial to the country’s economy.”

India and Sri Lanka will host the tournament in 2026, while Australia and New Zealand will split hosting responsibilities in 2028. The T20 World Cup will be held in Australia next year, which has already been announced.
