Check To See If You Are Eligible For Up To $1400 In Stimulus Checks & $3600 In Child Tax Credit Payments In 2022

Checks for Stimulus

To mitigate the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the government issued two rounds of stimulus checks in 2020 and 2021.

In 2021, a couple filing jointly with one kid would receive $4,200 in payments, with $1,400 for each taxpayer and $1,400 for each qualified dependant.

A person’s adjusted gross income determined who received a stimulus cheque. Couples earning less than $150,000 and individuals earning less than $75,000 were both eligible.

Certified Public Accountant Curt Fowler told the Valdosta Daily Times that if you qualified but didn’t receive the funds, you can claim them on your 2021 tax return.

The payment will be made in the form of a single check rather than a separate check.

Tax Credit for Children

In 2021, parents were eligible for a maximum Kid Tax Credit of $3,600 per child under the age of five, and $3,000 per child aged six to seventeen.

In July, the IRS started sending out Advance Child Tax Credit payments, which comprised 50% of the expected amount of the Child Tax Credit you can claim on your 2021 tax return.

The deadline for the final payment is December 15.

Because the pay-outs were based on your 2019 or 2020 tax return, many eligible people got them without taking any action.

If you earn more than $75,000 as a single individual, $150,000 as a married couple, or $112,500 as a head of household, the maximum credit rapidly decreases.

Your amount is reduced by $50 for every $1,000 of income above the phase-out level.

Advance payments will be subtracted from the credit you can claim on your 2021 tax return if you received them.

If you didn’t get any advance payments in 2021 or didn’t opt out, you can get the full amount by completing a 2021 tax return during the 2022 tax season.

You can take advantage of the Child Tax Credit even if you have no income or owed no taxes.

Parents should be aware that Social Security numbers must be obtained before the tax return’s due date and are required for each child for whom the credit is to be claimed.
