Vaccinated Americans without threat factors are vulnerable to the worst of contagions, a CDC study shows as the soaring number of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and the increased frequency of advanced infections may be unsettling indeed for those who are vaccinated and boosted. The rearmost exploration from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should offer some consolation.

A study of further than 1.2 million people who were completely vaccinated between December 2020 and October 2021 found only people with at least one threat factor had severe issues or death, and indeed among those the cases were rare, 1.5 per 10,000 participants.

Besides death (0.0033 of cases), severe issues included hospitalization with acute respiratory failure, need for ventilation, or ICU admission. All 36 participants who failed had four or further threat factors, similar as being 65 and age, immunosuppression, and other beginning conditions.

The results emphasize the notion supported by experts that healthy, vaccinated people under 65 have extremely high protection from COVID’s worst infections.

The study was conducted before the discovery of the largely transmittable omicron variant in November, but also before the wide administration of supporter shots. Although omicron has proven more transmissible than former strains of the coronavirus, it also appears to beget lower dangerous complaints.
